Is anyone else having problems with Facebook?  EVERY time I try to access it at home, it 1) gives me an error message which tells me that the site is having problems or not available or 2) shows up as a bunch of symbols, letters and numbers.

I am SOOOOOOOOO aggravated!

Have you ever met or known someone who has the same name as you (first and last) but is not a relative?

No, but I know there are plenty of us out there.  All of my names are VERY common.  As a matter of fact, I graduated with 5 or 6 other "Amanda's."

Thanks

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts, comments, and hugs yesterday.  I ended up going out to my car and taking a nap during lunch, so my afternoon was MUCH MUCH MUCH better.  I've not been going to bed at night, and I guess it all added up.  Then, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed and just couldn't get out of the frustrated, I-wanna-smack-everyone-in-sight feeling.  hahahaha.

So, thanks!

If you had to give up one indulgence for 40 days, what would it be?

View 500 Answers

Well, if I wanted it to actually be a sacrifice, like for Lent, it'd be coffee, tea, and Pepsi.  I guess to group as one would be caffeinate beverages.  More of a sacrifice would be TV.  Even more would be Internet.

If it was an indulgence to give up, but not teach me so much, it'd be reading.

I Agree with My Cousin 1000000000%

My cousin, [info]yellioli , posted this on her blog today.  She is an exceptional writer and very smart.  Below, she has put into words exactly how I feel about a few things.  So, I asked her if I could share it, and she said sure.  Read on!

I like President Bush. I am a little sad to see his term coming to an end. But I am able to separate my dislike for some of his actions from his value as a human being. I get irritated when people question his intelligence simply because he mispronounces words. I do this ALL THE TIME, and while I'll never profess to being at a genius level, I do possess intelligence enough that should exclude me from being called an idiot as many have chosen to label our former president. Further, if speech delivery were the true barometer of intelligence, then actors and actresses would be filling up science labs, college departments and courtrooms instead of Hollywood. Those who are truly educated should know that intelligence can present itself in a myriad of ways.

No, I don't agree with all of the decisions that Bush made, nor do I support all of his political views. However, the man did what he said he would do. He remained steadfast in his promise to the American people--the same promise that he made during his 2004 campaign, the promise that the majority of the American people supported enough to re-elect him. I find it very disagreeable that he is continually lambasted by the American media for simply following through on his very clear stand on the Iraq war--a war that was voted on and approved by Congress. How many other Presidents have been heckled for failing to maintain the course set forth in his campaign? Bush Senior for one endured much backlash after raising taxes after spewing repeatedly in his campaign that there would be "No new taxes". Yet, when his son maintains his position--let me just reiterate that this position was made clear and was voted in by the American majority--he gets thrown to the wolves and all memory of his leadership during 9-11 is forgotten amidst the call for his removal from office. I have no doubt that Bush was doing what he believed in his own heart to be what the American majority wanted and what would most secure the safety of the homeland. Do I necessarily agree with that decision given the changes that occurred in the four years of his final term? No. But I also voted for Kerry, so it was never my agenda that he was following. Democracy means that sometimes you get what you want, but sometimes the other guy does too.

In November, I voted for Barack Obama. This wasn't a cut and dry decision for me. There are a number of things that I question about our new President: his limited experience being the main issue. However, I agree with the majority of the things that he espouses and feel that he will make a difference even if he manages to see only a fraction of his ideas to fruition. The truth is, America needs a change--a fresh prospective. Watching the inauguration today, it was clear to see the hope that he brings for so many. To inspire so many lives is a wondrous thing, and the President seems determined to move from words and speeches to action. I am not naive enough to think that the new President will usher America into an immediate utopia of peace and unparalleled prosperity. But, he might just be the one to set us on the correct path. At the very least, he has proven that a native born American of any background, of any race, of any religion can aspire to the greatest job in the world. And that, my friends, was well worth bubbling in the oval next to his name on my ballot. God Bless President Obama and God Bless America.

I feel like the biggest dumbass at work today...and the two days before this one.  Gaaaah!

I am extremely intelligent, and it bothers me to no end when I have these mental blocks and/or inability to grasp things in an aggregate sense.

Thanks

Thanks to all of you for answering my Blood Donor question.  I really appreciate it.  I've written down your ideas and sent them in an email to my sidekick, aka the person who knows more about the procedures we'd need to follow to secure the funds for these sorts of motivators etc.  I'm hoping to hear back from  her shortly.

A lot of people on CC (where I also posed this question) commented that being able to personalize their donation would be an incentive.  So, I think I'm gonna share my mom's story.  She had a GI bleed a year or two ago and had to have blood tranfusions to survive/recover.  What do you think about that idea?

Blood Donor Incentive Question

Hi, all!

I'm here with a quick question.  I am the site coordinator for a company-sponsored blood drive, scheduled for next Tuesday.  We have about 90 employees here at (what used to be) corporate headquarters.  So far, 2, yes 2, people have made appointments to donate blood.  Of course, I will donate, so, that's 3 all together.  I've sent an email,  handed out informational packets, and posted signs and stuff all around.  I plan on sending another email today.  My question is, if someone were trying to get you to donate blood, what would be an incentive that would make a difference in your decision?

All presenters (people who show up to the drive, whether than are physically able to donate or not) will get a free tote bag or t-shirt.  I was thinking of saying that at the end of the drive, we will randomly choose 1 donor to receive a prize (giftcard to a local restaurant or store--was my thought).

Any ideas?  I'd like to include the incentive plan in my next email, which I'd like to send around 2:30 or 3.

TIA!

For those who are into such things, this might be the biggest party night of the year. Other people like to keep it a little more low key. How do you plan to ring in the New Year?

We will be eating dinner at one of the restaurants we received a gift card to.  Then, we'll go home, have some microwave popcorn, drinks, and watch Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.  I don't know if I'll make it till midnight.

I know I'm really, really late on this; however, as I was out driving to get a sandwich for lunch, I was listening to the radio. For the first time ever, I was able to pay attention to the words of Beyonce's "If I Were a Boy" and it really got to me. Wow. It touched me on a level that few songs do.

ETA: Just got done watching the video--AWESOME!!!

Either my big boss (not direct supervisor) thinks in terms that are too simplistic, or I think in terms that are too complex.  Or, maybe there is a communication problem at times.

KNOW that I am neither stupid nor dense, but he has the keen ability to make me feel that way sometimes.  Oh well, I will shrug it off and get back to working hard.

I am so sleepy, I have caught myself just before drifting off two or three times this morning.

And, blah, James and I are having our first post-reconciliation argument.  The topic, a recurring one:  How life, tiredness, whatever is so much harder on him.  He could NEVER be the single parent that I have been (and for all intents and purposes still am throughout the week, since he works evening shift).  After 1-2 days of experiencing maybe half of my daily life, it's "I'm so tired.  Do you know how hard that would be?  I need a nap. etc etc etc"  I honestly wish, from the bottom of my heart, that I could leave and let him see what it's really like to be me.  Then, maybe he could have enough decency to not act like he's dying after a few days (as I mentioned of maybe HALF of my normal).  I'm not asking to be worshipped or anything, but STFU!
